He looks a little confused at the headband, but it doesn't seem to spark a massive revelation. "Thank you — Infester? Architect?"

He is WEARING a HOLY SYMBOL but at least he didn't go for "Chosen". Do the Deskarites really go around calling each other "Infester", that's awful - focus. Timing. Buffs and then -

"Protection from Evil."

Blink blink blink blink blink.

"—You're not cultists disguised as crusader clerics. You're just... crusader clerics." Fuck. He told a bunch of crusaders that he would serve Deskari and Baphomet if they let him live. He is incredibly dead.

"The spell will only suppress your enchantments for a few minutes. I do not think you will be Judged too harshly for what you did while enchanted but you may wish to use some of that time to attempt a brisk repentance. Is there anything else we need to know?"

"Um. What do you already know. —Please don't kill me, I didn't mean to help the demon cultists, I just thought they were crusaders, I won't do it again."

"This spell will only suppress your enchantments for a few minutes," Blai repeats. "I am aware that it is not something you chose to do of your uncontaminated will but that does not make it cheap to fix."

"I could swear to obey you no matter what, even if I think you're a demon cultist?"

"I don't think that's a good idea. Can you tell us anything you haven't already about how you were enchanted to begin with?"

"Um. Let me think. When I joined the cultists, that I thought were crusaders, I had already been thinking for a while that a lot of people in the 'crusaders' were actually working for the demons. Except — some of my reasons made sense, but when I think back to it some of them feel stupid? And I felt so confident, and I don't know why, so maybe that was enchantment. Or maybe I was just being stupid." Like when they told him they were wearing demon symbols so the secret demon cultists would think they were on their side. Why did he believe that. Fuck. "And then I'd met this cute girl, Kaja, and she explained it, and it just — made sense? And she told me I was clever for noticing, and she said she could introduce me to some people who had figured it out too, and—" Fuck. The supplies he was diverting — fuck. "And I was afraid to help them at first but eventually I decided, what kind of man would I be if I didn't fight back against the demons just because it was scary. And some of them were assholes but some of them felt so trustworthy — probably they were magicking me. And when the city fell everything was really confusing, but they didn't have me in the streets, and eventually they told me we needed to run, the cultists had beaten us back, so I did."

"Anything else you can tell us about Kaja?"

"Uh. One of her eyes was grey and the other was blue. She was tall and her hair was really long and dark. She had a way of explaining things that would make them just — fit together. —We weren't sleeping together."

"Do you know of any plans of the cultists' not now obviated?"

"Um. Let me think. I don't think they were telling me the whole truth about any of their plans but maybe I can still think of something." Apparently this guy is the type to make a scrunched-up facial expression when he's trying to think on purpose. "Um. There's a little village no one is supposed to go to but no one told me why. And one of the other groups I didn't know as well had a fight last night about whether to go to Fort Lariel, so maybe there's someone there who's working with the cultists? And I know they were going to do something with the Wardstone, they told me it would wipe out all the demons and their cultists—" Fuck. Probably instead it was going to kill everyone else or something!

"What village where?"

"The village is called Chilly Creek. Up one of the little streams that feeds into the West Sellen. I could point the stream out on a map if you have one."

"Not to hand. Who should be notified of your situation?"

"Um. Ummm. I have two sisters who are still alive last I heard. Oda's at the monastery of Saint Caspieran and she'll be able to tell you where to find Frida — it's hard to explain quickly if you don't have a map—"

"Someone has probably heard of the monastery of Saint Caspieran. I am planning to remand you to the Inquisition with the information that in your right mind you are very cooperative; they may wish to repeat this trick and ask more questions or not; you may have the rest of the duration for reflection and prayer."

What is he even supposed to say here. Hello Pharasma, please don't send me to the Abyss, I didn't do it on purpose?

(After a few moments he starts to curl inwards on himself a little.)

"Do you want someone to pray with you?"

"I don't know." Pause. "Can you — tell Shelyn and Iomedae, and I guess Calistria and Abadar if you want, that I didn't mean to help the demons?"

"Of course." He kneels next to him and begins to pray silently.

Shelyn, please look kindly on this man, who was led astray through no fault of his own...

Blai writes up the information they have from the guy in a letter to the Inquisition and sees about getting that transfer arranged.

Does he need to do the executions himself or is there anyone designated for this task already?

They have someone designated! Everyone knows you don't try to have paladins do executions if you can possibly avoid it, and a cleric of Iomedae is kind of like a paladin. (It used to be that executions were performed by someone from the Condemned, but the Queen made them stop doing it like that.)

The Protection from Evil wears off after a little more than seven minutes, at which point the prisoner looks around in confusion for several seconds and starts shaking. "You're — the people in this room are still crusaders, right — I, I can believe you're crusaders, please don't kill me, I believe you—"

He's... done executions since becoming a cleric of Iomedae... but if that's the standard practice their guy can do it, as long as it's an approved quick method, they don't have a long drop gallows.

"We're not going to kill you right now but you are not safe walking free. Do you remember what I said about the Inquisition?"
