"If he gives you any trouble I'd be willing to talk to him."

"I think it will be fine, he just wasn't very satisfied by my poor ability to account for what I could possibly have thought I was doing for two decades as Asmodeus's man."

 Nod.

"Anyway. If you have no further questions for me that's all I had to say."

"Do you know how they closed the Worldwound?"

(She is also curious how they got Asmodeus to drop all his clerics but it feels kind of dubious to make plans for that when she's at the Worldwound.)

"No. I know they had someone with powers like Ember's. I don't know where I'd get another, so - Ember may turn out to be very important. But I also don't know where I'd get a weird sorcerer like the one they had with the cat, and don't even know the woman's name to see if I can find her herself, so."

"Is there any way to find out? A... Sending to the other world... or something?"

"I would expect to get the local version, for anyone I'm familiar enough with to target. However, it is possible that they will notice me missing in a couple of weeks, by which time I will be late for a Republican project of their party wizard's in Westcrown, and they are archmages so who knows what will happen at that point if they decide my absence is interesting."

"Well, we can hope. Maybe we'll get all the way to Drezen and then they'll teleport in on top of us." She laughs.

"If they decide to whisk me away to be a representative in the constitutional convention I will ask them to close this Worldwound too."

Nod. "Is there anything else from your timeline that might be helpful? Like... a new god, or something... not that in particular, I just couldn't think of anything better."

"Not that I am aware of."

"Alright. ...What should I tell people if they ask me about your background? I can't lie but I could tell them I won't answer."

"Like I said, it can't be a secret indefinitely, but it's a little delicate; use your judgment. Has anyone been asking?"

"Not yet. But I thought it would be better to be prepared."

Blai nods, and then that's probably all.

She doesn't seem to have any more questions, no. Does he have any other plans before he sleeps?

Nope.

He is not disturbed in the night!

It's been more than twenty-four hours since he donned his Wisdom headband; he has an extra third-circle slot in the morning.

Good, every little bit helps against a forest full of undead.

They have a few issues to raise to his attention now that he's awake!

  • These guys were caught attempting to desert. His staff recommends sending them to the Condemned.
  • This guy was caught reporting to someone over a Scry. He claims he was reporting to someone on a Taldan noble's staff rather than a demon, and is in fact Taldan by birth; he additionally said that he was trying to convince the nobleman to send funding to the Crusade. He's subject to Mendevian discipline, and available responses run the whole gamut from "give him a Truthtelling and let him go with no penalty if it's true" to "hang him for espionage," does the Knight-Commander have opinions here?
  • Everyone in this unit had horrible nightmares and they're not sure if that's significant somehow.
  • A guard spotted a woman in creepy black robes and a white mask who stated "I am the answer, but what is the question?" before departing. He was unable to apprehend her for further questioning.
  • Irabeth is ready to summarize what she's heard about his marching conversations whenever he's ready.

- If this is the first trouble out of the guys since Blai took over, yes, Condemned.
- Again, first offenses send you to the Condemned. Anyone with an innocent explanation for anyone they're reporting to is welcome to tell their CO today, all go through a Zone together, and get a definitive yes or no on whether they have evidence sufficient to rule out that their recipient is not a fucking succubus and, if not, whether they are allowed to continue. No one is allowed to covertly report to anyone! If you are reporting to the Queen you still have to make sure that it's in fact the Queen and not a succubus and you, random soldier spying on people, are not qualified to do that.
- Does Thall have useful theology and/or does Nenio have useful encyclopedia facts about whether that means anything?
- People like that have been popping up for a while and previous instances did not detect as Evil or cause other problems but like do try to arrest them if more show up because this is getting irritating.
- Yes please.

Is he making any specific commitments about what he'll do with people who voluntarily go through the Zone or is this more of a "confess now and you get the Condemned rather than the axe" sort of situation?

If anyone is trying to report to someone reasonable, like the Queen, they are not in trouble and can discuss that with... Anevia seems like the right person for that... to determine if there is a safe way to carry on with it, and if they are reporting to someone (who they ought reasonably believe to be) of less than unimpeachable appropriateness, like random Taldans who might or might not be possible to shake down for funding, they can get off with a token punishment like being stuck with night watch for a while but should cut that out and tell their employers to send the Crusade letters with any questions they want answered before parting with their gold, and if they are knowingly reporting to A Fucking Succubus but turn themselves in then they can get the Condemned instead of the axe provided they cut that the hell out.

This guy is willing to admit to reporting to (an agent of) the Queen. These guys are reporting to a duke, someone on the Royal Council, and a different person on the Royal Council respectively, all by letter. This guy is reporting to a different Taldan noble who's rivals with the other guy's Taldan noble.

This guy is reporting back to his superior in a knightly order via letter about non-secret information, has not concealed that fact, and is being scrupulous about it. He's guessing from the relatively low numbers of people lining up for the Zone that most people are interpreting the Knight-Commander more narrowly.

This guy is reporting to someone who's not literally a succubus but who's almost certainly working for the demons, and he's so so grateful that the Knight-Commander is willing to grant him the mercy of sending him to the Condemned. They have to hustle him out of the Zone of Truth because otherwise he's going to take up the entire duration just expressing how grateful he is.

No one else is willing to admit to reporting to anyone. Generally the person you're spying for doesn't want you to admit that you're spying, see.
