"Dismissed."

How is the march going. Are they there yet.

The march is having only the expected number of demons teleporting in, attempting to mess with the army for a couple moments, and teleporting back out if they're still alive.

In the evening the Abadaran who's supposed to be helping with the corruption situation arrives via the river barges that have been transporting the bulk of the army's food.

Great! Blai will go out to meet the new Abadaran. Hard to have too many Abadarans around. If you somehow have "too many" Abadarans they will start competing until you have a better number than you did when there were fewer.

Fiducia Karatzas is a wiry man around Blai's age, wearing a key rather than the crossed lines Fiducia Boian wears.

"Knight-Commander Artigas. It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Likewise; welcome to the Crusade. How was your trip?"

"Surprisingly uneventful. A brimorak did attempt to light the barge on fire, but it seemed to be deterred by the archers."

"A good thing you made it here in one piece. May I introduce you to Fiducia Rathimus or have you already met?"

"We're acquainted by letter but not in person."

"He's camped over this way." Behold, Fiducia Rathimus's accommodations.

The two Fiducias split off to have a brief private conversation.

Fair enough, he'll get out of their way.

Eventually Fiducia Karatzas returns.

"May I have a summary of the current situation as you understand it?"

"...what scope of situation, just the financials or the entire Crusade?"

"I meant the financials, yes, particularly as they pertain to my responsibilities here."

Yep he can give a grim summary of that and the copies of all the letters he sent asking after how much money passed through each intervening hand and so on.

That sure does seem like the sort of disaster typical of Mendev, yes.

"Beyond the Truthtellings, should I prioritize auditing the Crusade's financial records, or ensuring that those records exist to be audited, or something else?"

"I think I am less able to substitute for the auditing than for the recording, but do let me know if anyone is failing to produce records as complete as you'd like so I can follow up with that."

"Understood. Was there anyone in particular that you particularly wanted me to prioritize, or should I use my professional judgment?"

"I have some suspicions about -" Yeah there's a whole list.

He nods. "I'll plan to report back to you this evening, then?"

"If you can have results that quickly. I don't mean to rush you."

"I don't expect to be able to make it through anywhere near the entire list today, but considering the state of things it seems plausible that I'll discover behavior you'd prefer to know about before making it through the whole list."

"Yes, if there's something particularly alarming go ahead and let me know without waiting to gather more."

Off he goes to investigate fraud!

Does Blai have any particular additional plans for today's march?

No, that's about all he's got planned to leave lots of room for all the unplanned stuff.
