But they'll catch him sooner if they look into him now.

Yes, but this is true of everyone being investigated who will turn out to be caught. "Correctly reporting an embezzler" is not the sort of thing that really calls somebody's credibility into question.

That guy has always had it out for him. Does the Knight-Commander even care about catching "embezzlers" or is this just an excuse to go after people he wants gone — he did not mean to say that out loud, oops.

"You are aware that I'm not allowed to lie? I in fact care quite a bit about catching embezzlers and did not have a strong impression of you either way before discovering you were one."

Well, if he really wants to catch embezzlers he can go after his rival, and if he doesn't that's his lookout.

"People who care about things may yet pursue those things in ways that differ from what you would advise. Dismissed."

Once he's finished handling the embezzlers and non-embezzlers, the never-ending supply of Crusade-related administrative tasks continues to exist! (This unit commander believes one of their paladin-archers should be considered to be above the martial bar for meriting a Raise Dead; it's harder to compare martials directly, and he's the kind of intervention-cheap archer who's only a little bit of a paladin, but the unit commander can provide information on how quickly he can bring down various types of demons. This unit is having internal friction because this guy got word from home about this other guy's cousin breaking off an engagement with the first guy's sister. One of the supply barges was targeted by brimoraks, and most of the supplies were salvageable but the following supplies were lost...)

The Raise threshold should be informed by among other things how much money they have and how expensive Rathimus's services in that department might be (or his competitors, if he meaningfully has any in this context), but Blai can take this as a prompt to have a look at that and place the relevant paladin on a ranked list (he prefers a list over a straight threshold because a threshold is mostly only useful if one of the listed people dies in a given period of time and a list lets you start at the top if there's mass casualties and go down till you have to stop). The no-longer-in-laws-to-be can be split up if they can't settle down about this, though Blai has very little idea why they are so invested in the behavior of their faraway relatives as to get into a proxy argument about it. Maybe they should be reinforcing the supplies more heavily, can they afford that, let's look into it.

They can afford some possible ways of doing that! Most straightforwardly, he could reallocate additional personnel from his troops to barge-guarding, but he could potentially afford some more brimorak-resistant containers, at the cost of burning through some of their already-limited discretionary funds. (Teleporting in their food would of course be ideal, but it would be logistically infeasible even if Mendev could afford it; even their relatively-modest force is going through more than thirty tons of food every day.)

Brimoraks not being the only potential issue he will do some light troop-reallocation toward supply protection. ...he will ask the resident Hellknights to get a quote for him on how much it would, in extremis, cost to get a Chelish stew ingredient delivery on how much notice.

Paralictor Derenge can provide an estimate and is willing to solicit a more precise estimate from his superiors if desired. He expects it will be cheaper if they have notice further in advance, if the teleporter is bringing it to somewhere outside of the Worldwound (say, to a Mendevian fort to be loaded onto barges there) rather than having to cross the Wardstone line and teleport from a Scry within the Wound, and if they're looking for quantities that can fit into the preexisting Bags of Holding allocated to a single teleport wizard's supply runs rather than requiring them to pool together more than that.

Yup, that's about what he expected. He does not need one now but it's good to know where to get emergency food if brimoraks or something make even more of a nuisance of themselves.

Anything else he's hoping to deal with tonight?

Nothing specific besides Being Really On Top Of Minor Stuff.

Minor stuff: continues to exist!

When he falls asleep in his Rope Trick that night, he dreams that he's in a shadowy, twisted version of the command tent. Instead of strips of fabric hanging from the ceiling, there are hissing snakes; instead of paperwork, his desk is covered in sawdust; instead of the tent flaps that would normally serve as the exit, there's a long, dark tunnel, with a tall, ghostly woman standing at the end of it, not one he recognizes, with large horns curling from her head. In front of the woman is a circle of powdered silver with elaborate shapes along the edge.

He has the strong impression that the woman would like him to COME HERE.

This is arguably politer than the surprise conjuration attempt, if they're related, but absolutely the fuck not!

The woman frowns and moves her hand in another gesture.

The ??anger enchantment?? he felt when he was fighting Savamalekh flares up again, and as she twists her hands in the final gesture he can feel her tugging at it. The ?enchantment? snarls at her, urging Blai to get closer, close enough to hurt her—

Is the angel enchantment available to beat it up again or does he have to just try real hard on the will save?!

The ??angel enchantment?? does not appear to be present, but he can make the dream version of the angel sword dream-glow?

For how hard the woman's spell is pulling at the ??anger enchantment??, it's surprisingly easy to resist.

Maybe the angel sword is helping or maybe he's lucky or maybe this is just a dream where things are not that difficult. He does not want to go anywhere with this person.

She tugs harder, and the connection she's pulling on snaps, and the next thing he knows he's waking up in the Rope Trick.

He will go get Detect Magic'd immediately!

"—That's another conjuration. I can't tell if it's the same one but it's not obviously different."

"Well, this time it gave me an odd dream. Is that diagnostically useful?"

"What kind of dream?"
