I suppose since you have an afterlife and a way to prevent accidental children it's not as if horrible things are happening while you wait. A slower rollout probably makes more sense. 

I suppose I could be very presumptuous and see if Jovah has picked Linus's successor for sure yet but he almost never does it this early in someone's tenure.

The competent Valar might well be willing to make Linus and everyone else immortal, does that complicate things?
