Much of the written words read in Cheliax were written in Hell, books imported as part of the infernal subsidy. But other words were written in the Material, and must be carefully checked to ensure they are not furthering the many enemies of Cheliax, of the Queen, or of Asmodeus Himself.

Alfons took Pride in his work; week after week, month after month, he was top of the efficiency rankings. He would not gain circles very quickly, in this job, but his fight against chaos was no less the important for it, and he was compensated adequately by his priestly faction and the favors he could do for them in this position.

Captain Armengol,

Your treatise on Worldwound tactics fails to account for the Principle of Inevitability. Asmodeus will win in all of his endeavors; it is not proper to imply that individual efforts can make the difference in whether or not His efforts are successful. It is only permissible to imply that superior conduct in life can mean there is less work for the Devils to do in Hell, in straightening out our rotten timber.

He had only needed to read five pages to catch that clear flaw. There were perhaps more reasons to reject the manuscript, but he could find the next one on the next read, when Captain Armengol submitted it again. He was ranked on efficiency of processing submissions, not how many made it thru the office, and there was no reason to waste time giving the Captain a more complete reply now.
