A Magical Girl in thomassia
Permalink

The water is clear and bright and shiny and inviting. They have heating thanks to the local nuclear power plant, making swimming a possibility for most of the year. The buildings are tall and close and bright just like the water, almost all of them with rooftop parks and gardens. And the construction work is happening constantly, as the city expands ever further and the beach slowly grows outwards as new sand fills the waterfront, creating clever mathematical curves that mean more waterfront than a simple straight line would have.

Everything is just like how it is everywhere else, but Chryseis is different: she is a Magical Girl! It's ridiculous, but she and all the emergency response people that she works with knows that just as well as she does. And she's ready for anything!

A great sickness courses through the veins of the universe, a vast and creeping darkness that stretches across the stars, a twisted ravenous thing that seeks only to smother the light of hope beneath a choking smog of despair.

It will not prevail. Not while the Puchu stand with their magical girls, not while there is a single heart that still burns with the will to defend the truths of love and justice.

On Thomassia, many hearts burn with these virtues. Here, the forces of good are coordinated enough, and the war front held far enough away from the world, that Chomichomi can tell the local population about the problem without having to worry that the shock of it will cause them to metamorphose into some kind of dark and twisted god.

Chomichomi doesn’t have to try and perform guerrilla warfare with a pack of haphazardly quirky adolescents, she doesn’t need to mind control an absurd amount of people to maintain a veil of ignorance.

It’s quite the pleasant novelty.

A fluffy white raccoon appears next to Chryseis, plush-like and quite absurdly soft. "Have you got it down or should we go over the transformation sequence one more time?" Chomichomi the fluffy white raccoon asks.

"Well, I sorta want to try again? It felt like... a lot happening at once. And I'm not used to wearing clothes like these yet!"

"Okay! Remember then, focus on that light, that core of love and justice that burns within you. Reach deep inside, draw forth your ribbon wand from your heart, give it a twirl, and speak the magic words that feel right!"

Her loose, grey clothes fade away as the... ribbon wand materializes and she shouts, "We must fight!" in her apartment looking out over the city, starting the transformation!

The ribbons unfurl, growing and twirling as they gleam with sparkles and prismatic light. They spiral around her and then she’s spinning and posing, and her clothes, her body starts to dissolve—melting into radiance. Light reshapes everything: fabric blooming into lace and frill, edges softening, colors deepening, and—

What does she look like, as a magical girl?

She has an outfit that's white over a purple skirt not quite to her knees, with sleeves reaching just past her elbows and a bright red ribbon around her neck, her hair growing blonde and long enough to touch between her shoulderblades. Finally, the purple boots with their illusory heels extended. She wears skirts so little in her everyday life ahh but she can be sure she'll be used to having them on when being a hero.
