He will arrange a meeting promptly.
Kyong Shin-Il will meet with Lawrence in one of the more casual meeting rooms with armchairs and coffee tables.
<Nice to meet you, Lolenseu Lakson-shi,> he says. "Or do you prefer English?"
"I don't think I've ever met anyone as eager to talk to a PR manager as you. You just came out of power training, right? Why the rush? Not that I mind. But, typically it takes longer before anyone bothers to talk to anyone such as me."
"I don't know a lot about Korean culture. And I've heard that the Korean media, the Korean esper media, is...difficult. So, I want to pre-empt scandal before it occurs."
"Wise of you." He nods, then takes a deep breath. "Has anyone explained to you how Quasar PR policy for its espers works?"
"Quasar doesn't set any mandatory guild-level policy as to how espers should manage it?"
Smile. "Right in one. At Quasar, espers are free to decide what they want from their PR strategy. You can want nothing to do with the media — no interviews, no media appearances whatsoever. You can want everything to do with the media. Game shows, merchandise, modeling, advertisements and endorsements, philanthropy and advocacy, fan clubs, meet and greets. Something in the middle. Whatever you want."
Wow. That's...a lot. It reminds him of how big league professional athletes are, in a way.
"I see."
"Now, the most important part of setting a PR strategy is knowing what you want. What do you want from the media? How do you want to be perceived? When people hear the name 'Lawrence Lacson', what should they think? What should they feel? Quasar is not going to answer this question for you."
"Right. I didn't mean to put you on the spot. Let me give you some examples. Do you want to be seen as competent? Sexy? Relatable and down to earth? Enviable? Reasonable? Funny?
And separately from that, what do you want to do with your influence? I'm assuming that the reason you're meeting with me now is because you have some plans for that. If all you wanted was to avoid scandal, you could simply refuse all media interaction and have Quasar block you off from all journalists. Simply being hard to reach is a good way to avoid scandal.
Do you want to make lots of money from merchandise and appearances? Do you want people to love you? Do you want to do lobbying, or spread awareness or support a cause?"
