He has successfully been Polite.

Sleeping in the same room may be... Difficult, but he believes in his professionalism.

"Did Chrisor say when he would be back with the students?"

"A few days if not weeks, I think. He has to convince people that this is a good idea, and he's not going to be able to persuade Her Majesty's government to spring for more Teleports."

He didn't realise teleportation was so expensive. Well, now he knows.

"There's some medicine I can make while we wait for them to return, if you think that would be useful." It's going to be a marathon, not a sprint-- but any delays are going to matter to the person who would die without antibiotics, or had to go through surgery without anesthesia.

"I can help!"

Okay, so Bun has a list of things that would be helpful, even though they are kind of weird.

He needs a distillation set up (do wizards use those? He hopes wizards use those), alcohol (as pure as they can get), sulfuric acid, seaweed, and as wide a variety of bread/melon/water-damaged wood mould as they can find.

Alchemists use distillation setups!

--Alchemists really don't like sharing their secrets with people. Maybe they can find a gnome.

He knows all the parts of a distillation set up, it would just be kind of awkward to commission a glass blower if they can just acquire one.

Probably they should hire a gnome and then the gnome can obtain all weird chemistry equipment that needs obtaining. He will tell Chrisor to do this.

"...also I think you would like gnomes."

"They're ones that aren't from this plane? And don't age?"

"Yes. If they become bored they die, so they're constantly seeking novelty and adventure and new knowledge and new things to make. A gnome will tell you very excitedly about all of the projects they're working on and then get distracted halfway through because they just thought of a way to make humans fly without magic."

"They sound pretty charming. Hopefully I can provide some interesting variety."

"Maybe we can pay them in the chance to talk to someone extraplanar instead of having to pay them in, uh, money."

"Do you think they'd go for that?"

"Yes."

"I'm happy to earn my keep by being entertaining."

"A man of many talents," he says.

"A doctor and a jester!"

"And a chef, and a housecleaner, and an alchemist, and I've only known you for a day. Who knows what else I'll uncover."

The author regrets their inability to convey the sheer sexual tension with which Tanidio says this sentence, and directs the reader to watch this and keep it firmly fixed in their mind whenever Tanidio and Bun are interacting.

"I'm sure you're just as talented."

"Yes, I am." A dancing light bops Bun on the nose.

Should he have expected that? Yes, he should. Is it still surprising enough to make him laugh. ... No comment.

"...you know I bet the Duke has an excellent wine cellar."

"I wouldn't want to deprive him."

"Will he notice, though."

Theft is Evil (good) and Chaotic (bad) but like Chrisor said Law is easier to convince Good people of than Evil.

"If you think he would be fine with it."
