It is intended for this use case! Well, mostly for descent, but it works both ways.

Great! Then Lachlan will carry a cage up, and set it near the koala-sloth.

"Lawrence!"

How quickly is the koala-sloth moving? If it's slow, he'd rather not command it to go in directly because it would take too long.

It is moving very slowly! It might be able to speed up if one of them triggers it but on its own it is really taking its sweet time.

Yeah, he does not want to trigger it.

"Going to make it go limp and let go." He'll put that on without a timer, for safety.

"Okay!" he says, lunging to just below where it is.

It unclenches its claws and falls into place! Hopefully Lachlan behaves as though this is very unsurprising.

Yes, because he was forewarned! Into the box it goes!

Hm...would Lawrence's power keep hold of the monster if it was to trigger? He'd imagine so, but...

"If the monster was to trigger, could it have broken free of your power?"

Lawrence doesn't think so. His power feels absolute. You're either affected by it or you aren't. But if triggering...changes the psychology of the monster, such that staying still or going into the box was suddenly extremely against its nature, it would make controlling it more expensive.

He hasn't told anyone about those aspects of his power, though.

"I don't expect it to."

That's good enough for him. Three filled, three empty. Next!

The next one looks like a skunk and was reported for being a skunk, not for being a monster, but Animal Control is on high alert and a skunk that has chosen to nap on somebody's porch swing is pretty weird skunk behavior; if it's not a monster, it's rabid.

(On close inspection, the critter looks a lot like a small spotted skunk, but the marking shapes don't precisely resemble any species, and it's also iridescent and softer-looking and has bigger ears than a typical skunk.)

They can walk over and take a look.

Lawrence's power can spot minds, but it can also distinguish the shapes of minds. He'll extend his sensor power and scan it. Is its shape closer to that of a regular mammal, or a monster?

Its sleepy brain is a sleepy monster brain.

"Monster. Used my sensor power. Can't use my power on it while it's asleep, though..."

"I could pet it? See if it wakes up? Then if not, I scoop it into the cage."

"Let's try that."

Lachlan will walk over and kneel beside the skunk! If it sprays disgusting monster skunk juice on him, he is going to be So Upset...he's going to activate his power to cover a centimeter away from his skin, to protect him from that.

Is it woken up?

It moves around a bit in its sleep, adorable sighs and squirms! It remains asleep.

Can you get dungeon monster rabies? Something to look up later...

...he will put a hand on its back and start petting!

It purrs! A lot of Menagerie monsters purr.

They really are so cute! Extremely hazardous to life and limb, but so cute!

Does it react to Lachlan bringing his other hand in to cradle its underside?

It wiggles a little bit like he's tickled it! Cracks open one eye.

Did its state of consciousness change?

It is now only about three-quarters asleep. It yawns.

Lachlan looks at Lawrence.
