She has been assigned Trainee Desirée Watkins. "Pleased to meet you, ma'am."

"Likewise."

It's a little weird being called ma'am by someone who can't be much younger than her and may actually be older but being an esper exposes you to many weird situations. She'll roll with it.

"Have you been briefed on me and my power? Do you have any questions before we begin?"

"You're stealth; things won't notice you in broad daylight, and me either if I freak out about a monster. And you need... attention? Does it work if I just film you the whole time?"

"Filming is good but if you don't talk to me I'll have to keep checking to make sure you're still filming. I don't require incredibly scintillating conversation just...verbal feedback. Also we have to talk about what you wanna do with the film after."

"Well, if there's a civilian in it then I'm supposed to delete it, but if there's not then whatever you like, ma'am."

"If you give me any clean footage you get I can turn it into a highlights reel for my social media."

"You got it. But, uh, not sure what you mean by verbal feedback."

"Just...small comments, questions, that sort of thing. Doesn't have to be a lot, at the levels I plan to get to today, I don't plan to push my tolerance, but something so I know you're listening to me."

"So... like... 'acknowledged'? Just kind of over and over?"

"Helps if you have specific questions or comments, but if you don't than something generic is better than nothing at all."

"Okay."

"Anything else before we begin?" She's checking out the cage situation. "I've got some blankets to throw on top once we've got them caged. Should help keep them from being triggered while carrying them to the warehouse."

"...would the cages not hold them, if they were triggered -"

"They should, I checked the specs, but it's better to be more safe than necessary. Also the monsters might injure themselves in the process of trying and failing to escape."

"Is... that... a problem? I thought we were putting them in boxes instead of killing them because it might freak people out if we killed a kitten in front of them."

"If they find the core this time the monster zoo in Ontario will pay a million dollars apiece for them, they want to make a petting zoo."

"A petting zoo? You're kidding. A million dollars?"

"Nope, I'm serious. They've made an official announcement. Seems like a lot of money even to me but they are cute, and if they kill the dungeon they'll be entirely tame, based on their previous behaviour when the dungeon wasn't around. Probably safer than goats, honestly."

"A goat's not a million dollars," says Desirée.

"Because you can see them lots of places. Menagerie monsters are all unique."

"I guess that'd make it worth some, but a million? Do you get that all to yourself? Damn."

"I think it's fair if you get a cut.but I don't know what all the rules are in the US so..."

"I’m not sure either, I’m new. I bet somebody else would’ve taken this assignment if they knew, heh."

"We'll find out, if they find the core. Until then we can at least get the monsters off the streets."

"Yup. I’m with you, ma’am."
