This meshes pretty well with his own style.

He gets a text before shopping is quite done. "-Oh. Do you mind if we go check out and hurry home? There's apparently a rampaging cow I need to talk to..."

So he does that, checking out on two different self-checkout things with the help of some glowy animals (and attracting barely a bored glance from the attendant by doing so) and packing it all into the van and driving somewhat more assertively back home.

"Come along? Stay here? If you do stay, you'll have to stay inside, sorry."

"...Is there any benefit to going?"

"Seeing how I work, potentially magic practice. I'd want you to keep a fair distance from her though, upset animals are not to be trifled with. Other than that, no."

"I think I'll stay inside."

"I'll be back as soon as I can. I'd appreciate it if you put frozen things in the freezer and fridge things in the fridge, and help yourself to snacks if you're still hungry."

Out he goes.

She puts things away, practices magic in the kitchen sink, has a snack, and then reads the history book until he gets back.

The excited barking comes before the shout of, "I'm home!"

"...A bunch more cows started panicking around the time I got there, and it turns out there was some kind of mole monster, that was what was scaring them. I called in backup - we killed it."

"...Oh.

Glad I didn't come, then, I don't...think that would've been a good idea."

"I would have sent you to the far end of the field at the first sign of trouble. But, yeah. I do think most spirit bearers end up fighting monsters sooner or later - we're usually surprisingly good at it. Avoiding the spotlight in every possible way is probably the best course of action for the next while, though."

"Say, want to meet my assistant Dottie? She's coming over with a lot of various paperwork soon."

"Alright."

"...Hey, I don't know where your boundaries are or how you're feeling, but if I were in your position I could really use a hug."

"...I would have mixed feelings about being touched."

"Hm, sounds like a no to me. How's the book? Want me to just disappear and leave you alone?"

He leaves her alone.

Dottie is still dressed in a suit despite the late hour, and is gone with apologies for the very brief visit almost as soon as she gives a box of papers to Kent and a small sheaf to Anna-Seraphina.

She now has a lot of papers on the terms of the probation, including a legalese document summarizing the many hoops someone would have to go through to get her charged for her crime again and how it is likely to fail at every step, and a lawyer's business card.

...These are good things! She reads them very carefully.

The terms of her probation are pretty restrictive, especially if she ends up in trouble again, and frequently 'subject to review and change by case worker'.

As to the plea deal reversal: They'd more or less have to convince half a dozen judges, and possibly the Supreme Court. Not likely to get overturned at all - just not, technically, impossible.

...Wow, okay. Well. She'll just stick to her probation, then.

"Say, do you want to meet some of the shelter staff tomorrow? It's Sunday, but we'll still be open. Oh, and any religious observances I should keep in mind?"

"I can meet people. I'm not religious."

"Then I guess I'm saying goodnight. I gotta get up early - I'm not a fan of bedtimes, but I'd like you to be up by eight tomorrow, since that's when you'll need to head to school."
