The top levels of the Abandoned Sections are a good place to go if you have no money and no safer place to be. It's mostly bare metal and torn-open conduits. It's nearly pitch black, because the power was cut off long ago. Absolutely foul Gutterflow water pools and seeps here and there. Occasionally there's piles of sharp junk not even the desperate want anything to do with, worse even than the Dumping Grounds. There aren't even any rats, since there's nothing for them to eat. The only people who pass through here are scavengers on the way to and from deeper or sealed sections, and those with more reason to hide than usual.
Cradling a bleeding arm and half-lucid, high on illegal narcotics taken earlier in the chase and growing delirious, her backpack abandoned in a corner, Kaia tries to ignore the Butcher on the other side of the locked compartment door. He's scraping at the mechanism and shouting dark threats, promising a quicker end if she just comes out-
The butcher. The notorious serial killer. He really is real, he's a demon, a serial killer, a malevolent force sent to torment the living-
She almost fell asleep. She takes another speed pill. Think, think. Fuck. No. She's just boned. But if he's a demon, maybe another demon can kill the butcher. Does she know the names of any demons? She wracks her mind, hallucinating as she draws the circle, stuck at 'I summon the demon known as _'
It snaps clear in her head. The apocalypse shall be heralded by the beast of Revelation.
'I summon the demon known as Revelation', repeated around the circle over and over, in red pen ink, and then draw the final stroke.
