When Hyacinth comes home to her new apartment for the first time after a long day at university, it's to the sight of moving bots just finishing dropping off the last of her stuff and moving furniture into place. The full-immersion VR pod her parents gave her is safely hooked up in the pod room, her bed is in her bedroom, she has chairs and a desk and some bookshelves. Clothes are mostly still in boxes, waiting to be hung up in the closet. Holovid and a cozy chair occupy the living room. She doesn't have any food in the small kitchen yet.
And then a scowling Hailey darts past it, severing an exposed bicep with a shadow cutter mid-flight.
She is booking it until she has mana again. Thank you Hailey but she is currently worse than useless in a fight with a bear.
(C'mon, regen faster...)
Hailey does not trust the bear not to recover a burst of speed and catch Sin before she regens even a shred of mana. She could escape it easily, flying faster than its full charging speed, but she's not leaving Sin behind, and she's not able to carry another person in flight yet.
She lunges past its left side, counting on the disabled left arm to keep it from hitting her, and flickers her shadow cutter to sever its hamstring-equivalent muscle.
Hyacinth risks a glance backwards, and catches a view of a bloodied Hailey facing down a grievously injured bear.
She needs to stay away from the goats, but it looks like... they might actually win this...
She plants her staff and uses it to pivot. "Trust you, Hailey!" she yells. "Use its injuries and I think you can kill it!"
She still doesn't have mana yet, but she's going to stay just in casting range so the instant she does she can help.
She scowls at the bear, flaring another shadow cutter and sinking her saber into the back of its head.
It manages to claw her right wing as she jumps onto its back, but freezes a bit as she sword sinks in.
Hyacinth readies her staff and moves to guard Hailey's back. There may still be goats about.
Hailey pants, face down atop the awful-smelling bear, and manages to lift up one hand for a thumbs up.
She readies her staff and stares down the charred goat. "I know what you're thinking," she says. "Don't try it. Don't. Don't do it."
She swings her staff like a baseball bat as it comes in, aiming to hit it right in the head and knock it off course.
Okay hooooooolyshit.
She stays close to Hailey, staff still out, eyes watching for anything else to come.
"We need to move," she says. "Can you walk?"
She staggers upright, scowling at the pain in her wings. "I can walk. Just need to stow my wings, which is going to suck so much. Hell, I can butcher our kills for proof and loot. I'm just going to really hate the next five seconds."
