How odd. And unsatisfying.

Scott goes home.

The druids continue their work.

The town is hers to explore; no other gods to stop her.

Ellayania sends her pigeon to spy on the wendigos.

They seem to be watching TV. Nothing too exciting.

Any fresh patches of earth that might hide a body? Suspicious bones in their compost heap, that sort of thing?

No evidence in their yard or their trash.

...While she's rooting around in there anyway, does it look like they eat normal food as well?

No evidence of food of any kind.

Troublesome. She will relay tge information to her acolyte and allow Pascale to deal with them tomorrow.

The next day, Ellayania has a visitor.

"Hello."

"We came up with something. It can probably let them survive on human blood, if that helps, or we can spend another day on it and see what else shakes out."

"Blood is simpler. But it may still provoke disgust reactions among normal people. I think it would be wise to invest some further effort into the problem."

"So we shouldn't offer until we have a better version? They might just stick with something more familiar; I hope they don't have flavor preferences..."

"I will let my acolyte decide when to offer what to the wendigos. I simply think that in the absence of other concerns, this is a good thing to devote your effort to."

Nod.

"Of course. I'll put my energies into that. I promised a book on druidic practices; this one is an overview from the perspective of people who didn't know what they were looking at, so they talk about religion a lot, and dismiss what the druids did as superstition. It's easy to make that mistake even today, or it was, before you brought back the Nemeton."

"Thank you. I will study it."

"Dr. Deaton said he would be joining Ms. Yanna for the diplomatic mission, so I guess I should sit it out."

"The others' concern is likely over your recent past activities. My acolyte believes that you are done with that, and so we trust you, but they are not so quick to forgive, I think. And outsiders with only a partial understanding are liable to jump to incorrect conclusions."

"Fair enough. I'll keep busy. You know where to find me."

"Farewell."

Eventually, Dr. Deaton arrives.

"Are we ready?"

"Yep!"

The druid and the acolyte go to confront the wendigos.
