He hugs Elvee very very tight.

"We could sit down," he says, "and then it would be more comfortable for you."

He sits them down. It is, in fact, more comfortable. He doesn't hold Elvee any less tightly.

Elvee turns off his auditory input and puts his hand on Marlo's chest and listens.

He hums and still doesn't let go.

At some point Elvee says, "we're going to be late."

"Yeah." He does let go of Elvee, then.

When he leaves his quarters for a public space his face goes neutral and his shoulders go straight.

That's interesting.

Elvee holocalls Seku and says, "I'm bringing Marlo, is that all right?"

"That's fine!" He sounds more cheerful than he in fact is.

He's exactly where they agreed to meet.

"I don't know how you learn things best-- do you know how to read?"

"I do not."

"Don't worry, I can tell you all sorts of things-- unless you want to learn? I know Twi'leki--"

"Ryl. And I haven't had a chance to speak it in a long time, I've probably lost most of my fluency anyway."

Elvee does not manage to completely hide his horror at the concept of forgetting an entire language.

"Well," he says, "what sorts of things would you like to learn? I've done some preliminary work trying to figure out what sources on Force philosophy would be accessible without being condescending-- most of the holos for people with no background are aimed at younglings, and frankly they tend to be rather propagandistic."

"Most of what I'm interested in is technique, I expect the Jedi Temple and I have some philosophical differences that we aren't going to be able to argue out. — that being said if there's any particularly interesting philosophy I'd like to hear about it."

"Oh! Then I'm glad I brought Marlo, he knows a lot of technique. What kinds of things do you know how to do already?"

"I can use telekinesis, mind tricks, lightning —"

Marlo doesn't quite control his expression fast enough.

"Lightning is usually considered a Dark Side ability," Elvee says, "because it requires pure hatred to be able to use."

"...to clarify I can't aim it at people, I just really fucking hate being cold."

"There have been many Grey Jedi who used lightning safely and without falling to the Dark Side," Elvee says, "but anyone who pointed it at people eventually fell. I think pointing pure hatred beams at people in order to torture them is probably just inherently a Dark Side sort of thing to do."

"That — sounds likely."

"But I don't think you are necessarily going to run into problems if you're pointing lightning at logs in order to light them on fire," Elvee says. "What do you do to avoid going Dark Side?"

"I don't kill people using the Force, I try not to hold grudges — except Minu but he's dead already so it doesn't really matter —"

Elvee can tell him about what Grey Jedi generally do to avoid falling to the Dark Side!

Grey Jedi who successfully avoid falling to the Dark Side typically ration their use of specifically Dark Side-associated powers (although at least one group used lightning extensively, and Elvee personally thinks its classification was a mistake caused by the fact that for most Force sensitives there aren't that many uses for hate-powered pain lightning other than torturing people). They tend to keep an eye on themselves and when it starts seeming even a little tempting to rape or torture or kill innocent people they drop whatever they're doing and focus only on doing good. Many go on retreats or vacations regularly and do not hesitate to schedule additional time off after stressful events. Many of them have moral codes they have committed to not break. There's a lot of discussion about calm passion versus angry passion, attachments that help you advance your goals versus attachments that go against your goals. There's a lot of talk about compassion and pity and forgiveness.

Elvee doesn't mention whether Jedi or Grey Jedi are more likely to fall to the Dark Side.
