It'll keep her occupied for a while.

Pen can sing more Samarian songs in the meanwhile.

He occasionally clarifies vocabulary words and starts to piece together the language and then joins her in singing.

"Do you wanting alto harmony for song? I remembering it."

"Sure!"

So she teaches him the alto harmony and then they can harmonize! [At home is always always harmony singing all day long,] she informs him by brainphone without missing a beat.

Elves'll sing all the time too, but usually only all day if we're sad or worried or something. You're a good singer.

[Am aaaaaangel. Is not same people singing at home all day, is sign with somebody up and do for hour.]

Huh. I think I'd like to see your home. They're good at genetic engineering, if nothing else.

[Not any more. Long time ago. Now is just angels have more angels and not even always.]

People forgot how? That's horrible.

[They forget on purpose! There being huge terrible wars all everywhere where people knowing how do any technology, so some people go on new planets then not have technology on them. Samaria one those. Nobody left in world who knowing how do things, have to find all out from pastwatching and stuff.]

Conjuring all your old science might be faster for your peal than pastwatching. Huge wars everywhere? Do you know what they'd invented that caused that?

[Weapons and stuff? Dunno.]

Lots of dimensions have lots of weapons but not lots of wars. Has anyone written anything about it?

[Probably but is no Jane to asking here.]

...think I could make a Jane point?

[...don't think so? Ansibles are, start with one thing then split it and it still talk to itself, not, make one thing it know how to talk to other thing.]

Then no. Ugh. I might still make us some ansibles, sounds useful and I can't make crystal balls here.

[Ansibles are good.]

And when Linyabel is done reading he makes them all a delicious dinner and is only a bit sad.

Linyabel eats a lot and compliments him on the food and, having read all the things, starts quizzing Pen about her peal.

Pen can't remember all the Bells' nicknames, let alone all their significant others' nicknames and other attached persons, but she can produce what she otherwise believes to be a complete list of Bells and important worlds by such monikers as "can't pronounce world" and "one with owl". She has learned most of the relevant peal facts in the form of bedtime stories which she only later was informed were real, because the peal was cut off for years of her childhood when Jane went down because some Bells brought a Janegem into the mean world which might be named Materia. There are many magical powers flying around, most of which she doesn't have - she has wards, she has the brainphone and can add people to it, that's pretty much it, on Samaria some songs work like magic songs but they won't do that here absent spaceship-god; she is not old enough to be allowed coins or enchanting; they're not handing out Syntropy wizardry because it may attract evil god attention; she doesn't have a Janegem because what if she'd gotten lost into a Jane-breaking world.

And he diligently writes all of this up for his peal, trying to get enough detail for each world that proper demons without adjacency limits can conjure from them. Their peal hasn't even dealt with adjacency as far as Pen knows, which could be because they're all adjacent to Milliways but then this one'd be adjacent to Milliways too. Though it could be that this world's adjacent to Milliways but Milliways doesn't let you teleport into it.

"Milliways weird," Pen says. "It not very much like other worlds. Downside too. Is adjacency like sheafs?"
