"In the truck? You can go through on foot, but it's hard to notice anything about it."

"Eh, I mostly just want to walk back and forth a few times," and giggle a bit, maybe. "I'd probably be in the way, though. Where does this one go to?"

"Elsewhere. Portals always have one end there. But the other side is a facility with various portals to around the worlds. You can do that if you want."

"Oo, I thought they were just going from point-to-point on Earth!"

He would like to go do that!

Alex will go with him. To prevent him from wandering off and ending up three portals away in Epoch or something, of course, and for no other reason. Is there anything observably different about the warehouse on the other side?

The other side is more warehouse. Though he can see through the windows (high above them) that the light is different. And he can see there are more portals around. From this angle he can see through two more, one of which has windows that appear covered in snow.

He bounces on his heels a bit, grinning, "This is so cool," he whispers. He looks longingly at one of the nearby portals.

Temple chuckles. "Wait until we see beyond an interworld warehouse." Their truck makes way to the portal where they can see the snowed windows. "Come on."

They go! Through another portal. Is it chillier here? Or is their heating better than that?

The indoors part is noticeable chillier, and the outdoors are noticeably chillier there is a small settlement around them. Covered in snow.

"Are we in Efross?"

"Elan. Other planets can have snow you know?"

Two new worlds in quick succession. It is really hard to remember to stay on the ground rather than flying up to take a look at their surroundings.

"How many worlds will this trip take us through?" Alex asks, looking around curiously.

"After this we will go to Elsewhere again, then a quick detour through Australia then Elsewhere then back to United States."

He shakes his head, smiling a little, "That sounds ridiculous," he says.

"It sounds great, you mean," Jamie corrects him.

"Technically not mutually exclusive." Pause. "I am actually unsure. But anyway, here we are." He waves at the fields beyond the window.

They are passing through what might be a school. Or at least a place with an excuse to have a couple dozen kids in a snowy field making sculptures of dogs.

"In Elan, or at least that parts I am familiar with. They don't build snowmen, instead they build dogs - moondogs - out of snow. I think they have some polar native people that believe they ward against evil?"

"Moondogs," he repeats, delighted, pressed up against the window. "Do you know why they're called that?"

"Because they live on the moon. See, the moon is made of snow. Which is why it melts away every month."

"Moondogs frolicking through the snow on the moon - that's adorable. I think that might be my favourite moon legend, now - though I guess I shouldn't assume it's a legend," he adds.

"Huh," Alex peers around Jamie to get a look at the moondogs. "Is 'dogs' just the closest translation or does wildlife match up somewhat? And Elan has one moon like Earth? What about the others?"

"Actual dogs, different breeds, but capable of reproduction with Earth's dogs and everything. Wildlife is very similar, but not identical with a mix of entirely new species and species that are extinct on Earth but not Elan and vice-versa. Same applies to the other worlds. And I think Epoch is the only planet with two moons? Planet with life that is."

"That. I think Efross' wildlife is the most different by far. It's solar year is about twice as long than Earth's but everyone's else is at most a month off. Days are a similar but not identical lenght. Ah, and Elan has augmented species so don't be very surprised if you spot a horse that's large than moose. Or an elephant."

"If the horses get as large as elephants, how big do the elephants get?"
