A third of the world is covered by the howling maelstrom that was born a century ago. It is not ordinarily a place you'd find people surviving, but sometimes things appear in it. Strange things - otherworldly things - brought into the mist of a howling storm of cloudy dust and wind that blows in whichever direction it wants.
Eefa is sort of confused about how her saying that she liked Pelape's singing has resulted in Pelape singing, but that's okay, other people do confusing things sometimes.
It's because now she has a happy baaaaaabyyyyyyyy (not really a baby more like an eldritch two year old but close enough).
Sometimes people want her to be happy but they usually have normal reasons for this, like not wanting her to try to escape.
The attack doesn't dissuade market attendance one bit, and the next few days are as busy as ever.
This person lost a dog and needs help finding it, this group would like to know where they can go to sell definitely fake gems, and several people notify her that most of the water spigots for the livestock aren't working properly anymore.
Presuming the gems are being advertised as definitely fake decorations they can go right over there! What does the dog look like and where should it be returned to, she can ask around on her rounds. She goes to verify the spigots, takes note of which ones are still working, puts Out Of Order signs on the busted ones, and makes her way to where the plumbing is managed.
Eefa elects to stay behind at the market watching someone blow colored glass, though she checks to make sure Pelape is going to find her afterwards and can see the building where Pelape is going from her hiding place.
"Yes, I can come straight back here as soon as I'm done in there. You're sure?"
The building looks like a prison and a laboratory put together. Yes, Eefa is sure she would like to stay in the market instead.
"Likewise - something with the plumbing giving you trouble, or did you just get sent here looking for me about something else?"
"Plumbing. Bunch of the spigots for watering animals aren't behaving themselves, and I'm not a plumber but there wasn't anything obvious to me."
"-ah. Most of the filtered water reserves got used up fighting the fire, so I've been trying to replenish them. I must have diverted too much of the flow. Do you have a sense for how much more is needed?"
"You use filtered water for firefighting? I'm hope anybody with a salvageable structure appreciates it but that's not the level of prioritization on cleanliness I've gotten to expect around here. I think there's currently a line for the spigots that still work, but the absolute amount of water is sufficient for now, it'll just back up over the course of the day if the other faucets stay inoperative. The line would probably go away if you got two more functional."
"You are not supposed to use the filtered water for firefighting, but apparently this was not clearly communicated in advance."
"Gotcha. Are the people watering their livestock going to be making the problem worse, I don't know how you have it hooked up such that I could draw conclusions just from which spigots weren't running."
"Most of the livestock spigots are connected to the old filtration system - it should be safe, but doesn't taste as good. If the markets need the other spigots working too I'll need to use the main system, which does mean the reserve will take longer to build back up but it should be fine."
"I don't think the donkeys are picky. If you can get just one more going, I think the lines won't get too bad, people will be watering their animals into the evening when they're usually on their way out but that's not an obvious problem. Two more solves it. No call to get any more than that up before the system's ready."
"If that's what's manageable. I think I'd rather have one in an hour than two in three, if that's anything like the tradeoff you're looking at."
