It is about halfway through the third hour of the fifteenth day of Lucette's attempt to reorganize her grandfather's library. The project is moving at an acceptable pace overall, though she's starting to question the wisdom of having scheduled the whole thing down to the hour during day three (hour four).
"Okay. Do we need more of a cover story than we have? Are you going to be able to disguise your voice?"
"I think if we say we are an empowered couple looking to make a new start in the colonies, people will not question us further."
"I can use my power to do this with my voice?" Lucette says, a half octave lower than normal, with a strange underlying buzz when she says 'voice'.
"...I think it's conspicuous that you're doing something weird, but it is lower, I'm not sure if it's better or not."
"...well, we can't leave bodies. I guess we could leave suicide notes and say we were going to drown ourselves in the Thames."
- probably the River Ouse would be better, but I suppose that could work... Sophie may find my suicide unlikely, but I don't expect anyone will believe her on the subject.... and I can't see a reasonable way to tell her the truth without risking being discovered, however much I hate deceiving her."
"I think so, but it would be complicated if people found out I was alive and I'm not sure Sophie will be able to keep quiet... probably this will be less of an issue once the King has approved a new heir for York."
"I'd suggest taking her along but it would introduce so many complications and we don't have anyone lined up for her to marry. - if marrying me doesn't work you could try marrying her, she has a demon."
"-huh. That is.... not an entirely implausible idea. Though I don't want to marry her nearly as much as I want to marry you."
"...would she need to be delaying her hauntings too to try right away with you if it doesn't work with me?"
"If it doesn't work with you I'll have to wait another few weeks for my demon to recover in strength in order for me to try again."
"Lord Wellsworth was not in full possession of his wits at the time, and I was. It's also generally considered the responsibility of women to maintain the decorum of interactions between the sexes, at least in England."
"I was hosting the party, and the library is not typically considered a private room."
