:Making stuff out of wood. Making trees grow better, sometimes:

Nod. :All right, let's go wander and see who needs wood-related jobs done:

They can, with some wandering around and Wood translating for her, pick up some work at a general store, making shelves and chairs.

Jisa is content to do this for a good long while, but she's worried about pushing Wood to work when he was literally just freed from slavery, and she checks in every five minutes to ask him if he's had enough.

:I still have plenty of magic:

:Er, that doesn't mean you have to do this, though, it's your magic not mine, we can stop when you're bored or not in the mood anymore of whatever:

:I don't have anything else to do:

:Then we can keep doing this, I think it'd be good if we can pay Maurabel back for feeding us:

:It's your money, so sure:

:- What? It's not my money, you're the one doing the work to earn it and the entire point of freeing you is that you're not owned by anyone else now. I guess maybe we could split it half and half, since we're teaming up to look for jobs:

:I can't have money:

:Why not?:

:...I mean, I can carry it for you. But I can't spend it because I'm an elemental:

:Oh, right. Um, it's still not fair for it to be my money, though? I think we should keep track of how much is yours, at least between ourselves, and you can decide what you want to buy and then I can buy it for you, how's that?:

:I don't need to eat and you do:

:Mmm, I guess that's a good point. I just - I don't want you to feel like you're still a slave and the money you earn all belongs to me, all right?:

Shrug.

Jisa falls silent, not sure what else there is here to be said.

She still checks every so often if Wood wants to stop, but more like every half-candlemark.

Eventually after finishing a furniture commission he's low enough on magic to want to stop. They've earned a tidy little pile of coins.

This is very satisfying! :We can pay Maurabel back for food: Jisa says happily as they walk back to the university, :and then you won't have to feel bad at all about tasting as many things as you want...:

Nod nod.

Is Maurabel home?

No, but Penumbra's sitting on her bed with a book. She looks up but doesn't say anything when they come in.

Jisa smiles at her. "How was your day?"

Penumbra's invisible wings rustle behind her back; Jisa can hear the feathers and see the glow-edged shadow. "Fine."
