The wizard inspects the remains. "I believe so, although I couldn't tell you of what type. Why were they a glass cage?"

Shrug. "Backups in case the undead they had controlled weren't enough, maybe? Negative-channeling clerics can take control of uncontrolled zombies and skeletons, right?"

"Some of them can."

The room has multiple doors out. The rightmost set swings open.

The underground formation has reached them. The captains discuss what they've seen so far.

One of the guardsmen opens a different door. "There's prisoners in here!"

Morgethai would have a hard time with the prisoners, wouldn't she. "I didn't know Urgathoans took prisoners, I would have expected them to be used for zombies. Are they infected with whatever the cult was making?"

"Some of them have rashes and I think one is dead!" More guardsmen move to the edge of that room. "How odd. Their manacles are unlocked. None of them are conscious."

"Our mystery cult-destroyer is a very specific level of friendly?" She smiles a little as she speaks. That's probably meant as a joke.

The guard shrugs. "It's not like I have any better ideas?"

She keeps having mostly reasonable ideas as they go through the cult hideout. She never has anything shocking, but her ideas are consistently good. She can't show off her performance under pressure without any actual enemies, but she can ensure the guards like her as a person and would be happy to work with her in the future.

The warehouse isn't that large. It doesn't take that long before she has Detected everything there is to Detect. Once all the magic is found and there's no sign of an ambush, she... asks if they need to get checked for disease. They are in the middle of an Urgathoan cult, after all.

The captain sighs. "Yes, we will need to do a sweep for disease. Unfortunately we don't own a set of physician's spectacles. If I remember correctly, the church of Sarenrae does. I'll have a runner sent back to the Citadel to ask around."

"I'll wait, then."

The captains are more personable when they haven't almost died at the hands of a fifth-circle cleric under an hour ago. Unsurprising. They're definitely more indulging her than actually thinking about most things she says, but being second circle seems to at least somewhat substitute for demonstrating her competence in combat. She isn't confident they would look for her in particular if they need a caster, but they might.

Eventually the runner gets back.

The church of Sarenrae in Korvosa owns one set of physician's spectacles. They send down another cleric and check everyone involved in the operation for poison and disease. None of them are diseased. The prisoners definitely all are. It's some sort of fungal infection. The gunk in the vats is full of spores.

She nods, thanks the cleric, and leaves. No more reason for her to be here, and hopefully the guard has a better impression of her now.

The sewers will probably be unsafe again, so the only other thing she was planning to do was dealing with the Mantis. She can't send a letter with the conspiracy definitely watching her, and she isn't even sure they're in Korvosa yet. The rest of the day... possibly someone wants to hire her for Silent Images? Wizards don't have nearly as many as she does, they're probably worth something.

She doesn't have a plan for the rest of the week, but it sounds like Morgethai will be doing something. She should probably expect to react to that, assuming nothing else comes up.

Ileosa, someone murdered the Urgathoans.

... all of them?

They're all dead. Arkminos vanished and didn't respond to a sending.

Have we been betrayed? Tiriac wouldn't risk—

Some of the equipment in his laboratory was left behind. As was one of his snacks. I doubt he would willingly abandon so much.

How were they killed?

A greater detect pulled out four moderate spell auras. Three conjuration, one evocation.

No wounds on most of the cultists. I suspect cloudkill plus whatever they needed to finish off Andaisin and Arkminos.

Moderate is... fourth to sixth circle. In your opinion who are the top suspects?

The seer. Vargas. Ornelos. A different local wizard. A foreign adventurer. A party of local or foreign adventurers. A monster from the depths with spellcasting.

The plan is going to have to change again. This feels like the seer. First they disrupt the dragon, and then they disrupt what we pivot to.

We do have other options, though none nearly as good.
