"In that case, I shall follow where you lead on that matter."

The next step is finding reasonable lodgings, some locations for recruitment, and such. She isn't as good at that here as she would be in Korvosa, but Magnimar humans are much the same as Korvosan. She can manage, and let Yanor get to sending his letters or whatever methods he prefers for contacting his possible recruits.

The Cathedral of Abadar in Magnimar overlooks much of the city from atop a high cliff. The city is alive and the streets are busy at this time of day.

Yanor will be trying to recruit some friends of his. They live in the lower parts of city. He recommends staying somewhere down there; it's more affordable. Just make sure to avoid Underbridge.

They can meet at the Cathedral of Abadar tomorrow at noon.

She can manage that. Reasonably safe and perfectly affordable form the obvious pair of objectives, and finding somewhere with both properties in the middle of an unfamiliar city with a basically familiar culture just isn't that hard. Asking some useful questions and getting a sense of the area will take a while, of course. She gets started on that, leaving Yanor to reach out to whoever he's looking for.

She can find a decent inn the Dockway district. It caters to foreigners and merchants and is relatively affordable.

Inn, and a sense of the place! And nothing else until tomorrow, because that will take all the time she is spending today.

Yanor didn't leave a location, so she will not update him on where to find her. He will have to wait until tomorrow at noon.

MAGNIMAR POST
SUNDAY, SARENITH 7th, 4708

NEXT WEEK'S DOCKWAY BARGAINS HIGHLIGHTED

Magnimar has newspapers too! They're closer to the Korvosa in tone than Janderhoff or Almas, though they would hate to know it. There's lots of stuff going on in the second largest city in Varisia. There's advertisements of goods and services, less Abadaran in their manner than they would be in Korvosa. There's tall tales adventurers and monsters of ambiguous fictionality. Who's to say what really happens out here at the very frontier of civilization.

It doesn't even have the redeeming feature of letting her track how things are going, because she has neither any idea what could be happening in Magnimar nor any way to influence it. If she wants to eventually be oriented, though, she will have to go step by step, and this is one of the early steps.

Remarkably unclear how much is... actually true. Do Magnimar papers not even put up a pretense of being accurate? Better to know.

Lhín appears with her in the morning, as expected. She gets out and find a place to eat and prod others who are eating early in the direction of interesting gossip, before eventually making her way to the Cathedral around noon.

Yanor is present within the Cathedral of Abadar at the appointed time.

An armored man she doesn't recognize is with him.

Lighter end of what she would call real armor, more like a marine than the guards. Interesting. Well, they're going to be running around a foggy marsh, plate armor might not handle that well.

"Greetings! My name is Tencednil. I gather you are Yanor's newest recruit in his scheme?"

He nods and shakes her hand. "Julen. Yanor's always going off to old crypts and dungeons and the like. He has a discerning eye for it. What he doesn't have is a good swing with a blade."

Handshake! Her grip strength is definitely not impressive. "His swing is most certainly more impressive than mine, even so. I am a sorcerer, with something of a gift for illusions. It is remarkable how many monsters find themselves unable to stand in the face of a Color Spray and a Burst of Radiance, but it is certainly reassuring to have a competent blade-user in the party."

"An arcane caster should be helpful, given where we're going."

"We haven't found a fourth yet. I know a couple more people who might be interested. If none of them are, I'll start casting the net wider."

"Given the style of defenses I would anticipate finding, a fourth with a good sense for anticipating and evading magical traps would be quite valuable. I have a few possible signs pointing in a relevant direction, but nothing of which I am yet certain. I will continue tracing them in case your leads fail to play out, I suppose. Would you like to come along? The additional visible experience should improve my chances, but your time is more usefully used to trace your own candidates if that is necessary."

"If you have some leads feel free to pursue them. I know someone who can deal with magical traps. They might be available."

"If you have an estimated meeting location and time, I will most certainly be there."

"I let him know yesterday that I was planning on swinging by. You're welcome to come with. If not, we can meet up here in an hour?"

"I would definitely like to come, whether to meet our final member or in possibly-vain hopes of convincing him to assist us." She follows.

They travel down from the upper city into the lower city, passing through Dockway and into Beacon's Point. Yanor points out monuments and locations of interest he's familiar with. They arrive at an apartment building on a clean street.

He knocks on a door on the second floor.

A strange man opens the door. His outfit is covered in numerous odd trinkets, charms, and holy symbols. "Yanor." He peers around. "Other people. Please, come in."

She gives him a bow as she enters. Yanor has too much necessary context for her to actually start speaking, though. Best to leave that to him.
