The worm is burned but not blinded.

Tomas is still in the grasp of madness. He slices another cut open on his hand.

Yanor shakes off the madness. He retreats and casts his baleful glare at the horrible worm.

The worm is not affected in the slightest. YOUR MINDS SHALL ROT BEFORE ME.

Mind Fog. Thin mists of dread fill the room.

Her mind will not rot. The fog seeps into her... and she remembers the proper way of the world, she remembers to ignore the lies people will try to feed you, and it touches her not.

Unfortunately the worm is still very much a threat. Possibly less of one if it isn't moving? There is at least a chance. Scream.

It was injured by that. A little.

Tomas throws off the madness and sprints up to the worm. He pierces its thick hide with his rapier.

Yanor is perfectly coherent. It's difficult to drive him insane. Fireball.

The worm is singed. Just a little.

It slices at Tomas with two shortswords held by its tail. He isn't where he seems. Miss.

Another Burst of Radiance is as good as anything else at this point. It should at least hurt this thing.

And duck back out of aura radius, of course, she's not an idiot.

The worm is seared by the light. More importantly, it's blinded!

Tomas carves into the worm, accelerated by Yanor's haste. It's looking quite wounded now.

Yanor retains his mind. Spiritual Weapon.

The construct of force fizzles against the worm's spell resistant hide.

It makes another volley of attacks at Tomas. One of the shortsword swings cuts into his side.

In again, and a Burst of Radiance. This one comes from that higher slot she felt, everything else is empty. She might run out at any time. Well, they definitely aren't continuing after this.

The worm is blinded once more.

The madness starts to creep in again. It makes him want to kill things. He will kill the worm. He tears a hole through the worm's heart with two thrusts of his rapier.

The worm collapses to the floor and goes still.

Wand out, and over to Julen. She pushes a charge down the wand, feels it envelop him—

He has no wounds to close. Nothing happens.

...she checks for a pulse.

He's not dying, he isn't collapsing in on himself.

Julen is just dead.

"He's dead."

"Fuck. What was that?" He throws out a detect magic. "Lingering moderate illusion. Almost certainly phantasmal killer or something very similar."

"We need to get out of here. Getting his body up the shaft is going to be such a pain."

He's actually dead. She knew it was a risk, but... that quick, and with nothing he could do. He just died right then and there.

Alright. The world is what it is, you can only work within it. What now? What is the proper response to his death?

Unlike the caravan or the guard, this is extremely well paid work. And... they did say that, didn't they.

She didn't actually expect it to matter, one way or another, but it is only fair.

"The gold from the construct before will cover a Raise Dead, if we get him back within ten days or so. When we said Raises came out of the loot before splitting it I admit thought it mostly a joke, but we hold to it now. Out, sleep to recover, and back. We can exit through the hydra's cavern, the Anytool can be a cart for carrying everything and there's nothing waiting for us on the other end. If there is anything more here, we can come back in a week, with Julen alive and no clocks ticking. ...and there will almost certainly be a Bag of Holding we can purchase quickly, the necessity has become increasingly clear to me."
