It's very, very cold out here. The air is thin, the sky is dark, and everything in sight is covered in snow. Off in the distance, a thin beam of light pierces the sky.
Once he's done casting Kevin will look slightly apologetic.
"I realized we should maybe get a moving picture recording, if you're okay with that, but you were busy and you okayed audio recording so I just started. I can delete it now if you'd like."
"I was not able to identify what you were doing or ask about it without ruining the spell. Most spells don't take that long to cast but it's not a polite moment at which to introduce me to anything that might want clarification. I don't in principle object to this recording existing but I do not really approve of you benefiting from this carelessness."
"Got it. I apologize. I'll delete it."
He will perform some set of operations on his device within full view of Blai which might make more sense to someone familiar with the device usage.
Blai is not qualified to follow up on this so he doesn't. "What should I eat, since this is for people who have become tired of a completely different set of foods than I have?"
"Anything you'd like from the regular buffet? The usual policy is that you can eat as much as you like but you shouldn't serve yourself food you aren't going to eat, if something's special they put up signs about it and the only special thing today is the conjured food. But if you don't recognize something and you take a tiny serving to try and then don't finish it nobody's going to complain. I can tell you about the individual foods if any of them are unfamiliar."
"Several of them I'm not confident I recognize, at least the spices if not the underlying material." What've they got.
Somewhat flat bread, green beans, stew with greens and chicken, yellowish rice, lentil stew, cookies (a different selection from earlier), and stuff in tubs that has scoops taken out of it in a bulky box with a sliding glass lid.
He wants bread and vegetables and chicken and lentils and cookies! If the stuff in the tubs is recommended he will try some. He'll pass on the rice.
Kevin has a look.
"The brown is chocolate, the white is vanilla, the whitish one with chunks is cookie dough."
"I suppose. Would you mind if I got myself lunch real quick? You can call for me and I'll be right back."
Kevin returns shortly with a plate of the base food as selected by someone who is not tired of rice, and a smaller plate with a slice of peach.
"Thank you."
If Blai has no questions during lunch Kevin will eat his plate of base food and then very slowly eat the slice of peach.
Multiple people attempt to thank Blai in badly pronounced archaic Taldane spoken while looking at their devices, but none of them seem to really expect a response.
"He also says that there are professional interpreter standards which I have not been trained to adhere to and that if I'm not doing word-for-word translation I need to be clearer about that. So this is me being clearer about that. And that if you have any problems with my behavior you can talk to him about it and request a replacement if necessary."
