Nod. "Well, warlockry was good enough for Bella and, um, May. So unless it is obviously wrong for me I'll go ahead."

"Do you want to start with wild magics, ranked magics, or warlock swag?"

"...ranked magics."

"So, there's regular ranked magic, and there's elementalism. As a non-sorceress, you can by default only have one form of elementalism that isn't in-affinity--meaning witch affinities, not wizard affinities, although it may be that a wizard affinity that lines up well enough with an elementalism might count. Unfortunately, the human affinity set is body and soul, neither of which have an associated elementalism. There are ways around this, of course, and elementalism is only a relatively small subset of magic as typically practiced, but you should keep that in mind going forward."

"...I am, I admit, a non-sorceress. Would I still be a non-sorceress if I were majoring in sorcery? - my affinity is the elaborate kind of potions where you set up a ritual diagram around the actual container of potion you're working on."

"Oh, sorry, in witch society the feminine is the default the way the masculine is the default in a lot of mundane societies. It would technically be more accurate to say sorcerer than sorceress, but it's the same thing and also people would say sorceress sometimes without actually intending to misgender you."

"Well, 'warlock' at least does not have that problem. So, one elementalism unless my arrays-and-arrangements thing turns out to match up somehow, which I'm going to guess it does not."

"It does not. It might approximate a relevant affinity for witch alchemy, but not for any elementalism."

"How do I check if I have an affinity for witch alchemy, then?"

She sort of...extends a concept-bubble to him, in a similar way to how she attempted to tug him out of his body, except this time he would have to actively choose to take the bubble, not just let it happen.

"...is there anything irreversible about doing this thing?"

"There absolutely is not."

Two ranks of witch alchemy! He can sort of get a feeling for the vague general shape of how witch alchemy works. It has some similarities and some differences from how wizard alchemy works, although he can't perceive that much detail about the specifics.

"Yep, that only takes up two points. In-affinity."

"How dear are points?"

"You get twenty of them to start with, and you can accumulate a total of a hundred including that starting pool over time. There are also ways to increase either the cap or the starting pool--or both, by up to thirty apiece."

"Ways, you say."

"Should I start there instead of the ranked magic?"

"Maybe? So I know how thrifty I have to be when I start looking at the prices."

"Perfectly reasonable. For two points you can have a supernumerary nipple anywhere you like on your body."

"...can I get rid of it afterwards?"

"Temporarily. They come back."

"Huh. How fast do they come back?"

"It varies, depending on a variety of factors including how strong a magic you used to get rid of it, but I've never heard of one staying away for longer than a month. And the month was an outlier."

"So if I make an extra-nipple-vanishing potion I'll be reapplying it every... week? Every other day?"
