"Yeah, that."

"How well did you know the ones from Atlanta? It looks, under the circumstances, like introducing you to them would be easier than introducing you to most people on campus, and you could see if the similarity goes deeper than the skin."

"Kanimir and I were pretty good friends, Jaromira I knew less well. Atlanta and New Orleans - my enclave - shared a reading room in the library, so I saw a lot of them."

"I'm sure Jaromira can call her sister over easily enough. --Professor Agrippa, is that somebody's leg?"

"Yes, but it's Tanya's," Belladonna says, indicating the brunette with pointy ears who's brushing the chayena, "and she doesn't seem to be too upset about it."

"Fair enough."

"Tanya can regrow legs? - also I don't know what kind of mal is eating the Kiss stockpile but probably it should be killed before it eats enough to reproduce."

"--That makes sense, I'll see to it. Tanya is an elf, those regrow their entire bodies at elven Lifeshrines when killed, and we have one of those on campus. It's already eaten the rest of her last body."

"Chayenas fortunately only reproduce sexually, unlike many kinds of mals, so that one won't be having any babies unless it is pregnant right now, and the other one's already dead... you're positive it's just the three?"

"Completely. And yes, I can see spirits fine through the divination."

"Cool. In that case is meeting Local Jaromira next?"

"It sounds like it!"

The witches back at the suite have been informed of the situation and are planning to head out to the spring in question soon-ish. But they're not leaving Caio and Aadhya alone in the shower and bedroom respectively without any clue where everyone else is, so it's going to have to wait until at least one of A) Caio gets out of the shower and Aadhya wakes up, or B) they can agree on who stays behind to update them.

Caio pops out of the shower, in the same clothes, which he has cleaned with magic.

Aadhya peeps out of the borrowed bedroom not long after that.

"Oh cool! So, uh, it has been decided that mals are not too terribly infohazardous to witches, because we find them entirely plausible, and also three of them came through with you guys. One of them is already dead, one of them a professor has sent a minion to dispatch, and one of them is being cooed over by some witches who I think have some ranks in naturalism. And one of the witches who killed the first one, who's with the cooing ones but not, actually, cooing at the thing, apparently has a doppelganger! So we're heading out to check that out."

"A doppelganger?"

"Apparently you, also, have a blonde named Jaromira with a twin who looks about like so." She holds up her phone with the same picture Johann showed Bella.

"...yeah, she looks familiar."

"Yeah, she's in Atlanta. Weird."

"That's what I've been told!"

"It's a little weird, Jaromira and Katarzyna Grigori are not from the American south, but not, objectively, more weird than the bare fact of doppelgangering at all."

"I think maybe their dad is Polish and moved into the Atlanta enclave? Wizards crosspollinate a lot."

"That makes slightly more sense! --I wonder if there are any other doppelgangers who we haven't happened to notice yet."

"I guess we can keep our eyes peeled!"

“It could be interesting!”

When the group from the suite arrives, the scene is slightly different than that presented by Professor Agrippa’s picture. The chayena has finished eating Tanya’s leg and licking blood off its paws. One of the not-obviously-a-doppelgänger girls has a tarantula in a cage in her lap. And just offscreen from what would have been captured by the picture are the somewhat squashed remains of a siren-spider.
