I'm a Good partisan. Haven't you been listening to the cleric? The Law-Chaos axis has nothing to do with Good-Evil at all.

(Laying it on a little thick, aren't you?)

There are lawful-coded things which impoverish society which you shouldn't do either.

And I can't think that all theft is wrong, or I'd have to come out against taxation, and it's illegal in this country for me to say that people who can't comfortably pay extractive feudal dues should hide their shit from the tax-man.

Have you noticed how peculiar these four fucking guys are?

Sure. I was in the room when Ileosa brought up gene drives; they've made no effort to hide their eccentricities.

Hmm, yes, I suppose there's also that.

They've made no effort to hide their eccentricities - or, should I say, no effort to hide their abilities - , or else have failed in that attempt, or else have and are currently succeeding. I favor this last interpretation, although I do not, by and large, ascribe this success to any awareness or intention on their part.

Their curse is... strange in aspect.

Tell me, Orianna Delmore of the eleven ranks in bluff, do you ever pretend to be someone other than you are?

Only every day.

Why, I'm doing it right now.

When you're eighth-circle you can mostly stop dissembling, which is a minor perk.

How did you do it, sir, if it's not a family secret?

Making eighth, I mean.

I threw myself at certain death and, when fear fouled my aim, I missed. There are no happy men who make eighth-circle, Delmore.

None save rare clerics and dragons.

Heavy.

Chaotic Good is better than Lawful Good because you can lie to people, steal from them, and stab them in the back, but you're still Good somehow.

Chaotic Good is when you do the wrong thing for the right reasons.

Chaotic Good is when your heart is in the right place and you do more Good than Evil, but you're still way too Evil to count as Lawful Good.

Aroden was Chaotic Good.

On the other topic, have you ever pretended to be someone who was, in turn, pretending to be someone else?

Hm. I think so? I'd be lying if I said, say, that I'd never set expectations low by pretending to be incurably unconcerned, and then, when shiz got real or people got angry, pretended to be a careless necromancer pretending to be a careful one instead of abandoning the level-one deception.

None of that was true and this tack would not work to improve my opinion of you even if it were.

May the Lady of Graves smite me if I'm lying, Toffman, but everything I said was literally true.

Be that or not the case, you were trying to leave me with a false impression.

Probably I was on some level, although this entire conversation about motives makes affecting sincerity sound more deliberate than I think it usually is. I don't pick my words carefully, I'm just saying whatever comes to mind - like a mole diggin' a hole, sir, I'm feeling my way through. Should we circle back to why you're asking these questions?

Chaotic Good is doing what's right instead of doing what's expected of you, or what you could defend to someone else.

If you couldn't defend it to someone else, how do you know that it's Good??

Unfortunately, there really isn't a royal road there.

If you aren't sure, you should ask me or an empowered cleric of a Good god.
