It's her first evening away from home, and even Papa's strong mental presence has left her range by now.
It's lonely.
She knows that humans aren't lesser than mutants, per se, but she's still used to a different flavor of minds thrumming against hers when she's trying to go to sleep.
She and Emily aren't the only mutants on campus, though. There aren't a lot of them, but there's one other, at least...
She reaches out to them.
Hello?
"How'd you guess?"
He fiddles with one of his earrings.
"I only had a couple, but...you know how some kids sneak the clothes they wanna wear at school onto the bus and change in the bathroom? Kind of like that, but with more blood."
Oh, right. He laughs.
"Yeah. Favorite technique of weird and/or slutty kids everywhere."
She raises an eyebrow at the word "slutty" but doesn't comment.
"I guess that makes sense, if you have sufficiently restrictive parents."
He nods.
"Lots of kids do."
Pause.
"--also, if I wasn't counting myself under slutty I wouldn't have said it. Not a judgement."
He nods.
"Yeah. I get that."
He resolves not to use it around her in the future.
"I've never actually had it aimed at me or anything but it's just so--connotationally value-loaded."
To the cafeteria they go!
It's hot enough outside today that he has to carry his jacket. Leather is not light or breathable.
You should never wear a jacket. Those arms should be on display at all times.
hey, i like my jacket...but i guess i could be convinced to perform that public service more often.
He is trying to sound casual (as much as you can try to sound like anything when projecting your thoughts), but he's immensely pleased with the compliment.
I mean, also winter exists; I didn't mean it literally. Just: wow, you have nice arms.

He reaches over to try and scoop her up.

He spins her around a couple times before depositing her gently back on her feet.
Some jocks from yesterday give them looks but more frightened than angry, so. Edie smiles at them and they look away.
