Blaze is discovering how nice hugs are when distressed! She relaxes slowly against Edie, the tremors running through her gradually subsiding.

Hugs and pets and soothing murmurs.

Eventually, Blaze is just leaning against Edie, shoulders occasionally hitching with her still slightly-uneven breathing. Here, she starts to get a little more self-conscious about what people are thinking.

Perhaps unfortunately Edie isn't reading her mind to know this.

Blaze makes herself pull away, a little reluctantly, biting at her lips. "...can I- can I- be excused?" She...needs to not be around anyone for a little while.

"Yeah, of course."

"Thank you," she says quietly, and gets to her feet, clearing her dishes, before leaving the cafeteria to return to the room she was given, hoping not to run into anyone.

There exist people in hallways but none of them attempt to interact with her.

That's good. She isn't sure how she would interact with them. She makes it back to the room, and looks around, needing...

She pauses, pulls the blanket off the bed, and wraps it around her shoulders. The bed itself feels too exposed. She needs to be...

She slides under the bed, draws the blanket tighter around herself. She's hiding, and it's childish, but it feels safer.

She is unlikely to come back out until someone or something prompts her to.

After some number of hours there is a quiet knocking on her door.

It takes her a moment to realise that someone is actually knocking. And another to realise that they're not just coming in.

She slides out from under the bed, but can't quite make herself shrug off the blanket. So she's still wrapped in it when she pulls the door open, staying to the side so that whoever is behind it can enter.

"Are you okay?"

She thinks about that, rather than just going with the reflexive 'yes'. (She thinks Edie will prefer an honest answer.)

"I think so?" she says eventually. "Better. I just- overwhelmed?"

"Okay. I'm glad you're better. What was overwhelming?"

"I- everything? kinda? Just. Too much? And then hugging. Where everyone could- see? Felt. Too much."

"Okay. Is there anything I could have done differently that would have been better?"

She gives a helpless little shrug. "i- don't think I would know? Even if there was? I- you. were...good?" (It wasn't Edie that had made her feel overwhelmed. "Not used to. That many people?"

"Do you want to eat somewhere else?"

"I- that. Seems. Inconvenient? For- people."

"You wouldn't be the only one."

She chews on her lip. "Please?"

"Sure." Hug.

She leans into the hug, hugging back, smiling a little bit. "Thank you."

"You're very very welcome."
