"We do have homelessness in general, anything you could do to help would be great."

"I do fully plan to give us much as I can to charity, but I do kinda want to focus on the supernatural since it is likely to benefit more. Unless you meant homeless werewolves?"

"We probably have those, but they're all hiding. I was talking about humans."

"If you want to fix our problems, you could help us get in touch with other packs. They're hard to find."

"It wouldn't be trivial, but I probably can find packs for you. Do anyone know if werewolf is something purely magical or there is something physical about it? Genes? Physiological differences that a medical exam could pick up?"

"I don't know if there are obvious differences when we're not transformed, but we react to certain substances, like mountain ash and wolfsbane. If you can use that."

"I will try that," Felix makes a note to himself.

"You could ask my mom if she's comfortable running tests on me."

"Sure, but I will try without tests tonight anyway and it might be easier than expected. Do you happen to have tests from before you become a werewolf to work as a baseline? Actually, have you run any of those tests since becoming a werewolf?"

"I've haven't had a checkup since I turned. I don't have asthma anymore, so I've been avoiding making the doctors any more suspicious."

"...Being a werewolf cures asthma?"

"Asthma, epilepsy, fatal injuries and probably some fatal diseases."

Felix blinks at him and the looks around for a denial then he pinches the bridge of his noise. "That... is very useful information to have while making decisions."

"We really can't make people into werewolves to cure them. If you want to find a way to study how it happens, replicate it, then fine, but not just turning people. We don't do that, we're not that cruel."

Felix really wants to ask if Scott hates life as a werewolf so much and that his self-loathing is of such magnitude that he can't possibly bear the notion of people getting an informed consensual choice about and then picking "yes". Or if he has ever calculated the downsides of being an werewolf against the downsides of asthma? How much it costs world wide to keep asthma sufferers healthy and how many opportunities they lose? The lives that are lost gasping for breath? Did he then repeat that same calculation for epilepsy? And other vaguely defined but broad fatal diseases and injuries?

Felix doesn't say that, he strongly suspects that Scott didn't, most people wouldn't. More importantly, Allison is in the room. He isn't even confident if there is a kind way to unpack "cruel". Urgh.

"So, Scott..." Felix says after a silence, "I would dearly, dearly like to know, what is your mental model of me and what parts of it cause you to think that it is better for not to offer me information that I might find relevant or make you unable to understand what information I might find relevant. Because, while I understand how you might not trust me, I really don't understand what part of our brief acquainted made you think that I will make less mistakes by not having enough information." His voice is very flat and neutral.

"Werewolves, when they transform, can be uncontrollably violent for weeks. Stiles chained me to our radiator until I found an anchor- and then we found out alphas can command their betas to transform anyway. Nothing makes us safe when we transform. Safe means not changing. I could never turn someone willingly."

That is not what I asked! Felix thinks. "This information was relevant when we talked earlier, why did you fail to- sorry, let rephrase that. Why didn't you offer this information earlier?"

He is not even going to mention on how weeks of violent urges stack against years of suffering and possibly death.

"I think you should talk to someone else about all of this. Stiles, Allison, good luck."

He vanishes into the back of the office.

"So, uh, what do you want to know."

Deep down, there is a part of Felix that wants to react sympathetically, but he... can't. He is away from everyone that he loves and apparently this enough of a fragile emotional state that something like Scott's inability to properly make basic arguments is enough to make Felix's emotional availability to go comatose.

"First, I would like to know how to avoid a repeat of this reaction? I truly don't wish to cause Scott discomfort and if at all possible I would like to know how to repair whatever hurt I've just caused. I have guesses why Scott reacted like that, but I don't feel confident about them and I understand it is a personal subject, but I do wish to do better. Second, where I can find a itemized list of all werewolves and other supernatural creatures traits?"

He says all that with a very neutral voice, not even a cold one, just a detached tone that makes him sound like a completely different person.

"No one's studied this. There are no scientists who know about this and are still working. My family has a bestiary, if you want that."

"I can give you what I've got so far."

"I'll go check on Scott. Felix, you worry about yourself, we'll get you all the information that we have."

He heads to the back as well.

"Tell Scott that I hope he gets better, Dr. Deaton. I would love to get every piece of information that both of you could give me, thank you." Felix says still neutrally. "Allison, did you just implied there used to be scientists that worked on this and no longer do? Do you know who they are and how to find them?"
