"Do you want like, a hug...?"

She puts the teapot down and holds out her arms.

Faced with the decision of waiting for Haru to let him out of the booth or just trying to hug Rabka across the table, Julien chooses the latter.

It's sort of awkward but it is a hug.

Yeah.

Then she picks up the teapot ag- no, actually, she doesn't pick it up, she just positions her hand to hold it and then it teleports into the crook of her arm.

"Woah."

"Yeah, I can do that now on top of the rainbow hair."

"And what is 'that'?"

"Summon dishes? I guess it might only be magic dishes but it's not just the baby."

"Wow."  He turns to Haru.  "I think having found this place is - big.  - Like, obviously it's extremely important right at face?  But.  I think how weird it is makes it more so.  ...I mean, and also how weird it isn't, importantly.  It's a maybe really mineable amount of weird."

"...I agree that this place is a big deal and am not sure I followed you on the rest of what you just said."

"I mean, you can easily imagine us meeting a bunch of beings of pure math, or like the Arrival guys or something, where they're really alien and we have to work really hard to understand them.  That's not happening, obviously, but it also could have been the case that most places were Earths within a few decades of us; Kennedy's got something really strange going on but like - her clothes are basically the same as what she was wearing at home, she said, is I think something that gestures at what I mean.  But instead there are those and also people who look human but don't know whether they're from a planet, and have different clothes, and have dish teleporting magic completely outside the framework of espers.  Which suggests a lot faster travel down the cooler-stuff-and-safer-everything track than I expected without it."

"I didn't see Arrival but Cricket did and I've read the short story it's based on and those guys were completely unhelpful, if admittedly not nearly as dangerous as our existing really alien things we have to work really hard to understand... anyway, yeah, this is a very accessible band of alternate universes."

"I can't teleport the dishes away from me, just, if I'm not holding a dish and I want to I can have it." Pause. "And it doesn't work to steal somebody's dishes from back home to here."

"Ah, well.  In any case, I think we're an amount different from each other that means you should feel pretty hopeful about someone being able to help your baby."

"I sure hope so." Pat pat little teapot.

"Well, we'll let you know if we come across anything relevant."

"Thanks."

Meanwhile, a girl a little older than Kennedy can be found sitting by the fire with a sketchbook.

As intriguing as the exploding apparently-stars are, people are much more interesting.  (And the apparently-stars are apparently-not-people).  But she doesn't want to interrupt; she sits down a respectful distance away.
